How to reach Highclere
Highclere Castle sits 6 miles south of Newbury with no direct public transport, so most visitors drive — 40 minutes from Reading via the M4 and A34, free parking on site. Without a car, take the GWR train Reading to Newbury ($12 return, 25 minutes) then a taxi to Highclere, about $25 each way. Book taxis in advance through Newbury Cars — Ubers are unreliable here.
Visiting the castle
Highclere Castle opening days are limited — usually summer and specific autumn/Easter weeks — and tickets sell out weeks ahead. Newbury for the afternoon
